This session will address web accessibility in the context of standards. Among the topics open for discussion, we will be identifying the major challenges faced by the public sector trying to build accessible websites, and for companies selling to them; the best ways to manage those challenges; procurement of accessible software and services; the role of commercial web design and development firms; the new version of the NZ Government Web Standards and similar standards (Section 508 of the ADA for example), the tension between compliance and practical accessibility; and expanding the range of agencies mandated to apply the Web Standards in NZ and further afield.
